Yachting industry: sustainability is moving towards marinas

Sustainable transport is recognized as one of the biggest challenges of the 21st century and the yachting industry does have a significant impact on the environment. As the popularity of travel increases, it is even more important to make sustainability part of everyday lives.

The yachting industry is being transformed by a new generation of owners with enthusiasm for sustainability. Both individuals and businesses are toward greener practices, and that includes marinas, too.

Environmentally and socially beneficial marinas not only benefit the environment and the local community, but they can also meet return-on-investment goals as they generate more value. It would not be an exaggeration to say that the smart and sustainable marinas represent a multi-billion investment market.

The use of fuel-efficient vessels, renewable energy sources, the development of effective collaboration and knowledge transfer are some of the tools that can make the industry more financially stable, more environmentally friendly and adherent to national and international maritime policy. On the other hand, ratings and labels are both marketing and management tools for marinas, which can improve efficiency, reduce waste, increase environmental performance and thus increase their profitability.

On 20th September 2021, the Smart Yachting & Marina meeting will be hosted by the Yacht Club de Monaco in order to support development of new generation marinas, bringing together key players, investors, promotors, manufacturers and innovators. The initiative is also supported by the Monaco Government’s digital transformation program, Extended Monaco.

Sustainable development of marinas has become now a requirement for meeting industry-wide sustainability goals.
