The process of recovery from the Covid-19 epidemic must integrate sustainability as its core philosophy in order for this “new reality” in which we find ourselves in to become an improved version of the past.
Last week, the EU Alliance for a Green Recovery called for mobilization to REBOOT & REBOOST our economies for a sustainable future by bringing together a coalition of policy makers, companies, trade unions and financial institutions to develop a recovery package that accelerates the transition towards climate neutrality and healthy ecosystems.
Going forward, as the world adjusts to the pandemic crisis, four important trends which will impact the focus of Sustainability Professionals long term will be:
- A greater emphasis by investors in disclosures and transparency in Sustainability Reporting and ESG performance in areas such as business continuity planning, health and safety of employees and public health.
- The promotion of health and wellness of employees will become a strategic priority for many large corporations.
- The reduction of global travel and commuting as companies embrace and support remote and flexible working and look to support climate change efforts.
- Greater concern and commitment for public welfare with business displaying greater responsibility and reliability in respect to their company voice and marketing practices.
