As Walgreens Director of Community Affairs, for almost two decades, John Gremer drove built strategic partnerships with purposeful coordination of Walgreen’s ESG and civic engagement programs and reporting. Working across the ESG spectrum, he initiated Walgreen’s carbon inventory and ESG reports and was a founding member of the Retail Industry Leadership Association’s (RILA) Sustainability and Circular Economy Committee.
John has created and managed award winning – partnerships and programs with the United Nations Foundation, the National Urban League, the American Red Cross, Feeding America, and the Chicago Civic Committee. Also, as a member of Walgreen’s COVID task force, he was instrumental in delivering 40 million vaccinations in vulnerable communities and conducting 1,500 off-site vaccination events.
John received his MS in Industrial Relations from Loyola University in Chicago, and received his undergraduate degree from Wabash College in Indiana. He currently serves as a governor appointed commissioner for the Serve Illinois Commission on Service and Volunteerism.
