HUDSON, N.C. – The Centre for Sustainability and Excellence (CSE) hosted the first ever Certified Sustainability (CSR) Practitioner Workshop at the Community College level, in partnership with the Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute’s Institute for Sustainable Technology. Executives, managers and coordinators working across various fields and sectors participated.
Nikos Avlonas, President, CSE emphasized that “the current global financial and non-financial value crisis in the US can be remedied by integrating the four dimensions of sustainability into strategic and operational priorities to reflect an ‘Ethical Capitalism Model’ going beyond popular assumptions of Sustainability and CSR”.
Course participants learned about best practices and internationally applied guidelines for corporate social responsibility and carbon management. This uniquely certified workshop is approved by the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) and enables professionals to gain a professional certification as CSR Practitioners, making a substantial difference by integrating sustainability into their professional practices and organizations.
“By partnering with the Centre for Sustainability and Excellence, CCC&TI brought an elite, internationally recognized, certification program for sustainability professionals to Lenoir,” said David Waechter, Coordinator/Instructor of CCC&TI’s Small Business Center. “We have participated in numerous meetings where businesses spoke of the disconnect between saying they are green and truly understanding what green means. Training such as this provides a disciplined approach to achieving sustainability goals at companies both internally as well as externally.”
On the heels of hosting its first Corporate Social Responsibility Practitioner (CSR) Workshop, CCC&TI is now looking for ways to expand its reach. In response to a growing demand for this training, CCC&TI and CSE have established a strong partnership, aiming to further disseminate resources and knowledge in the area of Sustainability in North Carolina.
“CCC&TI will continue to work with companies and other colleges to rollout this opportunity across the state of North Carolina and beyond,” Waechter said. “This is yet another instance of CCC&TI assuming a leadership role in the rollout of green educational opportunities and we look forward to growing our relationship with CSE.”
At present, more than 200 CSR Practitioners in 5 continents and over 25 countries are certified, under the CSE. CSE’s upcoming trainings are scheduled to take place in San Francisco, Toronto and Atlanta.
