Tsakos Shipping and Trading S.A.- Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA)

The company was established in 1970 by Captain Panagiotis N. Tsakos with its operation headquarters in Athens, Greece. During almost half century in business, Tsakos Shipping and Trading S.A. has significantly expanded its shipping activities and world-wide operational capability through a solid performance in providing reliable transport services. It’s astute and consistently prudent management has resulted in the company gradually becoming the preferred partner of choice for a wide range of entrepreneurs. The Tsakos brand name has thus become synonymous with the principles of quality, reliability, credibility, efficiency and commitment to excellence.

The Challenge

Information on emissions and energy efficiency, safety performance, crew welfare, training, and compliance is often captured in different systems and formats, making it difficult to present consistent, comparable metrics and audit-ready documentation. In addition, defining clear internal ownership for each CSA topic and aligning policies, procedures, and controls across ship and shore operations can be demanding—especially under tight submission timelines.

The Solution

CSE supported Tsakos Shipping and Trading S.A. in overcoming CSA readiness challenges by delivering an end-to-end CSA support program. CSE mapped CSA requirements to the company’s ship and shore processes, coordinated fleet-wide data collection across departments. CSE strengthened the supporting evidence—policies, procedures, controls, and performance data—so Tsakos’ responses were audit-ready, aligned with the CSA methodology, and presented through a clear, well-structured narrative.
