Lorsque la d\u00e9tresse \u00e9conomique provoqu\u00e9e par les blocages dus au coronavirus a frapp\u00e9, les contrats \u00e0 terme sur le p\u00e9trole sont pass\u00e9s en territoire n\u00e9gatif et les cours des actions des compagnies p\u00e9troli\u00e8res ont chut\u00e9 radicalement. La situation \u00e9tait si grave que les exploitants d'ol\u00e9oducs disaient aux compagnies p\u00e9troli\u00e8res d'arr\u00eater la production parce qu'il n'y avait plus d'endroit o\u00f9 stocker tout le p\u00e9trole, puisque personne ne voulait en acheter.<\/p>\n<p>Aujourd'hui, \u00e0 mi-parcours, alors que les \u00e9conomies commencent \u00e0 montrer quelques signes de reprise, il convient d'examiner les cons\u00e9quences probables sur les travailleurs et les \u00e9conomies r\u00e9gionales.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>L'Alberta est un poids lourd de la production p\u00e9troli\u00e8re, avec plus de 80% de la production canadienne totale.<\/p>\n<p>M\u00eame si l'industrie p\u00e9troli\u00e8re de l'Alberta est relativement stable, le ralentissement des march\u00e9s p\u00e9troliers a d\u00e9j\u00e0 fait des ravages, avec une production de p\u00e9trole en baisse de 13% par rapport \u00e0 l'ann\u00e9e pr\u00e9c\u00e9dente. De nombreux observateurs de l'industrie estiment que le Canada est confront\u00e9 \u00e0 de graves probl\u00e8mes \u00e0 long terme, car il est intrins\u00e8quement un producteur \u00e0 co\u00fbts \u00e9lev\u00e9s et le p\u00e9trole est susceptible de se vendre \u00e0 des prix relativement bas au cours des prochaines ann\u00e9es.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>En d'autres termes, le probl\u00e8me n'est plus qu'il n'y a pas moyen d'\u00e9couler le produit, mais qu'il n'y a pas assez d'acheteurs, du moins pas aux prix n\u00e9cessaires pour faire des b\u00e9n\u00e9fices.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Il est extr\u00eamement difficile de pr\u00e9voir comment les march\u00e9s de l'\u00e9nergie r\u00e9agiront \u00e0 long terme aux crises \u00e9conomiques et de sant\u00e9 publique, m\u00eame s'il est possible de faire quelques sp\u00e9culations. L'Agence internationale de l'\u00e9nergie (AIE) pr\u00e9voit que la consommation mondiale de p\u00e9trole ne reviendra pas aux niveaux d'avant la crise avant au moins deux ans, ce qui concorde avec les pr\u00e9visions de l'Administration am\u00e9ricaine d'information sur l'\u00e9nergie selon lesquelles la production nationale de p\u00e9trole diminuera \u00e0 la fois en 2020 et en 2021.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>En outre, des questions restent en suspens concernant la croissance durable du march\u00e9 des v\u00e9hicules \u00e9lectriques, la trajectoire des \u00e9missions des r\u00e9seaux \u00e9lectriques et la croissance de la fabrication de mati\u00e8res plastiques.
